WHAT EXACTLY IS CTE?
Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. CTE can give a student skills needed to succeed for life: technical skills, academic skills and employability skills. In addition, career and technical education helps students see how what they're learning applies to the needs of employers.
DOES IT COST MONEY TO TAKE CTE COURSES?
All CTE classes offered at our county high schools are free. High school students may also take CTE classes at our local community college, TBCC, for free as well.
DO CTE TEACHERS HAVE INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE FOR THE CLASSES THEY TEACH?
Yes. Many CTE teachers enter the classroom directly from industry. All CTE teachers need to have 2000 documented hours of work experience in their CTE endorsement program. While a Bachelor's degree is not required to teach CTE classes, an Associate's degree is.
WHAT GRADE CAN A STUDENT START TAKING CTE COURSES?
In high school, a student may elect to take CTE courses starting their freshman year. The middle schools in Tillamook county are starting to develop and offer exploratory classes as well.
DOES A STUDENT HAVE TO TAKE ALL THE COURSES IN A CTE PROGRAM OF STUDY?
Students may choose to take the number of courses they desire. For example, maybe during their freshman year they enroll in a construction technology class, but decide they want to try something different. They do not have to take any more construction classes. The student could explore other programs of study, and/or take classes in more than one program.
CAN A STUDENT EARN A CERTIFICATION FOR COMPLETING CLASSES IN A CTE PROGRAM?
Yes. All of the high schools in Tillamook county give certificates for completing at least two courses in a program of study. However, to graduate and receive the CTE cord, they will need to complete between 4-6 courses in the POS during their high school career. Each program and high school have different requirements for earning a CTE cord for graduation honors.
CAN A STUDENT EARN AN ASSOCIATE'S DEGREE WHILE TAKING CLASSES AT A HIGH SCHOOL?
Yes. We have had several students in the county earn an Associate's Degree through TBCC by taking multiple dual credit classes while in high school. These classes are free for high school students.
WHAT IS A CTSO?
CTSO stands for Career and Technical Student Organization. In Tillamook county, there are several successful and award winning CTSO's including:

If interested in participating in any of the above CTSO's please contact your school counselors, teachers, or administrators for more information. These student organizations are available for all students. Some students may not join a CTSO, due to grades, or cost. The advisor's of these organizations will help students who need financial and/or academic support to make sure all can participate.

¿EXACTAMENTE QUE ES CTE?
La Educación Técnica Profesional (mejor conocida por sus siglas en Inglés CTE) le proporciona habilidades académicas y técnicas a los estudiantes, conocimientos, y entrenamiento necesario para que tengan éxito en carrera futuras y para convertirse en aprendices de por vida. La CTE le puede dar a un estudiante las habilidades necesarias para tener éxito de por vida: habilidades técnicas, académicas y de empleo. Además, la educación técnica profesional ayuda a los estudiantes a ver cómo lo que están aprendiendo se aplica a las necesidades de los empleadores.
¿CUÁNTO CUESTAN LAS CLASES DE CTE?
Todas las clases de CTE ofrecidas en las preparatorias del condado son gratis. Los estudiantes de preparatoria también pueden tomar clases de CTE en TBCC, nuestro colegio comunitario local, que son gratis también.
¿LOS MAESTROS DE CTE TIENEN EXPERIENCIA EN LAS CLASES QUE ENSEÑAN?
Si. Muchos de los maestros de CTE entran al salón de clases directamente de la industria. Todos los maestros de CTE necesitan tener 2000 horas documentadas de experiencia de trabajo en su programa de ratificación de CTE. ¿TIENE UN ESTUDIANTE QUE TOMAR TODOS LOS CURSOS EN UN PROGRAMA DE ESTUDIO CTE?
Los estudiantes pueden escoger el número de clases que ellos deseen. Por ejemplo, a lo mejor durante su primer año de prepa se inscriben a clases de tecnología de construcción, pero deciden que quieren tratar algo diferente. Ellos no tienen que tomar más clases de construcción. El estudiante puede explorar más programas de estudio, y/o tomar clases en más de un programa.
¿PUEDE UN ESTUDIANTE GANAR UN CERTIFICADO POR COMPLETAR CLASES EN UN PROGRAMA DE CTE?
Si. Todas las preparatorias en el condado de Tillamook dan certificados por completar al menos dos clases en un programa de estudio. Sin embargo, para graduarse y recibir el cordón de CTE, necesitarán completar entre 4-6 clases en el programa de estudio durante su carrera de preparatoria. Cada programa y escuela preparatoria tiene requerimientos diferentes para ganar un cordón de CTE para los honores de graduación.
¿PUEDE UN ESTUDIANTE OBTENER UN TÍTULO DE ASOCIADO MIENTRAS TOMA CLASES EN UNA ESCUELA SECUNDARIA?
Si. Hemos tenido varios estudiantes en el condado que han obtenido su Título de Asociado por medio de TBCC al tomar varias clases de crédito doble estando en la preparatoria. Estas clases son gratis para los estudiantes de preparatoria.
¿QUÉ ES UNA CTSO?
CTSO son las siglas en Inglés para la Organización de Estudiantes de Carrera y Técnica. En el condado de Tillamook, hay varias CTSO que son exitosas y han ganado premios:
